Guest entry: sushi making!

Lani is a great cook with a passion for cooking. She was kind enough to invite friends and family to a sushi making session last year. Just remember that it's meant to be fun!

Indian lamb & spinach curry

NM: Gard likes to order this dish when we treat ourselves to dinner at the local Indian restaurant - there are only 2,5 in our home town. So of course I had to try this recipe from Oprah magazine. I even let it stew overnight so the flavours could properly seal into the lamb. Pretty easy to make but not quite the end result I expected: the sauce was watery, dish wasn't spicy enough. Might try it again with tomatoes.

Scones

NM: I picked up a passion for baking between the volatile years of 17-21. My mom (and Grade 11 history teacher) used to bake the most mouth watering lemon cakes ever. One of my mother's other favourites was a British staple: scones & tea. More http://www.thenibble.com/reviews/main/breadstuffs/scone-history.asp
The recipe I used is from a hand written chicken scrawl. In pink ink - not dated and origins unknown. A relatively easy recipe and no need to get hands on with the dough - a wooden spoon or less than par blender will do.
Consumed best straight from the oven with some good butter. Or butter & jam. Or butter & cheese.
Note: if you don't own a big enough cookie cutter then an average size drinking glass will do (easier to clean too).

Our favourite - risotto

NM: What more can I say? This is our 'go to' dish. A staple. A favourite.
I think we have fed all our friends this one. Not because we don't want to make an effort but simply because we want to share the magic. Have you not shared this magic with us? Well, you know where we live ;)
Definitely a dish that can be made as a small portion starter, too-many-helpings main dish / forgot-to-get-groceries-on-Saturday-so-what-shall-we-make-on-Sunday dinner / comfort food, etc. You get the picture.
